Compiling shit for UDK takes so long...like a full 30 seconds to recompile and cook.

(that's not that long at all)

Is anybody around here interested in a little tool for texture synthesis? I recently wrote one as task for an exercise sheet. It would only take a bit of polishing to actually make it useful.
nice
I have given it a try now. Unfortunately the polishing did not give the results I had been hoping for. The thing works and it is also quite fast, but most of the time the quality of the results is not good enough for production. Maybe I'll give it another try, but for now I've run out of ideas.

Translated it for you, as I suspected it was Dutch. These examples are made by aragon, you can see if he responds since he is a member of this forum too.

all the texture positions are pre-selected.

the composition is randomly chosen.
the textures are made to have repeatable sections.
This example however does not flip or rotate sections. ;) look into that.

That sounds like a relatively weak patch-based approach. I want to do better than that. What I implemented is some multi-resolution variant of the algorithm of Efros and Leung (1999). In particular it is pixel-based, i.e. it computes one pixel at a time. It generates tileable textures, but currently it performs poorly at preserving details of the source image.

Yeah it's way more mathematical.
Perhaps your filtering is the problem.. try drawing the texture larger and then scaling it down a bit.

Fun when there's nothing to do at the lab.
Mind sharing what you are currently doing and what your results are?

Wasn't sure where to post this, but here's a little preview of what I've been working on...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5okKvQay0k&feature=youtu.bedunno if to congratulate or criticize.

oh well!

congrats.

smooth the models, the sharp edges ruin the harsh bump mapping. trees do not fit the environment well, seeing as everything is shaded brown and you have these bright white-green trees derping around. shadows look nice if a bit too dark, and the texturing on the boxes dont fit the rustic environment around it. the sun flare is nice, but incredibly harsh and stands out a lot more than it should, and the corners of the wall are sharp, so it looks ugly. might have to change up a lot of things.

i mean, if you dont mind.

i disagree, i think it looks very pretty, sunflares usually have different sprites but i think it looks nice, anyway the graphics aren't problem it's that the world is too deserted outside.

interesting revelation of fiction into science.
Spoiler: click to toggle

i found out that, no matter how amazing skarik's LoadSprite is, putting 1024x1024 skybox textures in my game result in a crash.

Anyone tried the Powerball? It's so much fun and great workout for your arms. It's especially good for people sitting by a computer all day, to exercise the wrists.
