I might get to go! This summer, through my college, they are offering a special program to let students intern in a German college for two months. Everything is paid, I even get spending money! I have to take a class in German over the winter to qualify. This would be so amazing!

I hope I get to go!

Whoa, learning German over the winter? Good luck :P Myself studied Spanish for 4 years in junior high and others studied French or German but there's no way you would become an expert in it in 4 years with 2-3 hours of class each week, let alone over the winter. Sure you could learn a lot if you studied intensively every day.

German is quite a complex language indeed (especially compared to English). Many rules for the grammar are more complex. For example in English you only need to conjugate for third person singular (he/she/it). In German you need to conjugate differently for every person. E.g.:
I go
ich gehe
you go
du gehst
he/she/it goes
er/sie/es geht

we go
wir gehen
you go
ihr geht
they go
sie gehen

And it is irregular very often, so you need to remember different conjugations for every verb. In addition to that you need to decline substantives dependent on their case (i.e. their grammatical purpose within a sentence). That is something that never happens in English.

On the other hand one can learn languages quite quick, by visiting a country full of native speakers. Besides quite many Germans can speak English.

I am not sure which city. There is a lot of info I have yet to get.

I don't think they will expect me to be fluent in German after one class; just know enough to get around.

I can learn very fast if I wish, and if you actually spend some time another country, it becomes much easier.

(Besides, thanks to Dr. Best I actualy have someone to practice German with. ;)
