My new in work prototype!
Built from a cheap but robust chinese toy copter. costed R150 dirt cheap

Ok so it only has a 2D height map for guidance.

And the accelerometer is not installed yet.
But soon it will be and then expect to see some action.

The perimeter is setup by 3 Line Of Sight usb Bluetooth sticks!
that sets up a nice

25m X (25m/2)
25m X 12m
=300m squared

Flight space
And direction beacon by tracking the on-board transmitter "fake north"

Once the accelerometer is in it can detect real north, it can measure G's, orientation, speed, acceleration.
But the transmitter is required for location!

The copter can be aware if it's location by getting updates from the height map
and weather conditions collected from the base station.

I am still working on 2 camera's small enough to scan a depth map for it. <things to dream on with.

This smaller model cannot fly outside it was built to work in low air current conditions.

NEXT i will program it to follow me thru the house.

Hey, I have a couple of those :D They're fun to fly, but hard. I assume you built yours from scratch though.

need to make a heavy duty one that can carry things
and drop them off on a landing pad
My instinct is to hide in this barrel, like the wily fish.

The parts were easy to obtain.
But you can get e'm for dirt cheap.

Ok the accelerometer is in.
Once this one works!
I can build 10 of them.

Then i can start to program better avoidance and swarm based wasp like intelligence.

kick ass man, that looks awsome
how hard do you think it would be to make a dirigible version?

Very easily actually.
I had this idea of making small floating recharge stations.
Each station has a few solar panels and a lithium cell.
basically a blimp with a landing platform that allow the copters to recharge.
Using small fans to keep the blimp in position.

Think of the like 3 floating blue tooth transmitters and the ability to recharge choppers.
Spaced in a perfect triangle 25m apart

Current life of a copter is 7Min of full flight time 1 min standby emergency hover time.
20Min recharge time.

The Accelerometer tests are complete!
And results are realty good. will post a vid soon.
