Hello peepz,

I'm still working on my 3D Online FPS (ArmyinFight), but i'm already on the point where i try to realistic my engine.
So, my quesion is; "What makes a good FPS gameplay"

For example what i want to include, is motion. Motion makes it realistic because not everything is everytime the same. By random motion i could create that.

And what makes running realistic?

For running, I like to see the camera shaking as if you where actually running, not randomly though, so it feels like your actually running around. As for what makes good FPS gameplay, I dont like modern games where you can only hold like two weapons (unless its required by the rest of the game or something), I think all games would a lot nicer if you could carry loads of weapons like Quake ect. Most of the time, I find that FPS's where you have to regeneate stamina to sprint isnt very fun, it makes you feel normal and human (which is what your trying to escape when your playing games after all :D ) Same goes to regenative health, I find it alot more fun to have to franticly dash around looking for health packs or something, but only if its suitable to the game :) You should look at older FPS's when it comes to good gameplay, most modern FPS games are too focused on graphics and quite frankly are quite generic =\

I think realistic injuries, like shot in the head = instant kill, shot in leg = slowed down movement and shot in chest = slowly drain life, etc.

EDIT: To check for aim at different body parts you could use different material IDs for the legs, chest, head, etc. In theory it should work.

i object to roflcopterz concerning weapon limits. you should not be able to carry a magnum, a shotgun, a rocket launcher, a minigun, a plasma launcher, a laser, etc all at the same time XD

pardon for being obtuse of everything but good gameplay = fun gameplay. there is nothing scientific that can create fun factor. it is trial and error. tell me why only now, i've managed to make a game that's any fun? i've done nothing new, done nothing amazing. the system doesn't have the details like camera motion, like different weapons, and yet it's fun. tell me why that is?

The way I read it is
How to get good gameplay for a FPS game?
and
How to make running around realistic?

But I agree with Skarik, often it's the least realistic games that are the most fun, because it's takes away all the frustrations of high learning curves and penalties. But in some cases that is fun as well.

This is not a game for people, it's just the way I want to make my game, what i always wanted. Because a 3D game with GM will never played by alot of people, so it's mostly just for my own.

Well lets get to basic player realism.

Go call of duty mw style and you win.

effects:
Warp camera is only good with distortions on explosions in slo-mo and to make wicked half life 2 style glass windows.
Local blur "use for when you get hit or damaged 'with a reddish overlay or blood splatters'

Let severely damaging shots like head-shots be lethal and leg shots cripple movement.

Use cod mw style health.

make the weapon selection screen like counter strike source but let players level to gain new weapons.
