Okay well first let me introduce myself. My name is Trenton. I am a current student at DeVry University for Game and Simulation Programming. Im 21 years old and I have a great passion for game development. We are currently using GameMaker 8.1 Standard in class along with the Ultimate 3D gex. Now onto my problem... I can't seem to find any tutorials on how to initiate the Ultimate3D.DLL. I have seen some of the basics in the examples but I don't really understand the concept of using DLL files yet. How do I use the dll? How do I get it to work with my games? Can anybody help? |

If you look in the examples you'll see that there's a control-object which in the create event calls for the U3D Init-script. This basically takes care of the initial setup. After that you load your textures, fonts and whatnot, the rest is done in the end step event I believe. I suggest you start off building your game from one of the basic examples. |

in the game maker help file if you click the index tab, and type dll then double click the first thing that pops up. You should get a little pop up window, then in that window double click the "using DLL's" title option, you will see how to use Dynamically linked libraries. If you want to see how the U3D dll is initialized inside of game maker, go to the scripts tab> open Ultimate 3D advanced functions tab> open private functions tab> open the script Init Are you guys really using game maker at DeVry?? also view Ultimate 3d Help file |

Ok I looked at the init files, now...will those work for every game? Can I use that for a template for any game I wish to create using U3D, or will it be different for other games depending on the type? And thank you for the help |

Yeah technically what is in the sdk can be used for any game, but you can take out whatever you don't need or aren't using if you like. |

Yes most of us use the basicGM7 and build from there, yes the one with a floor in the middle and a cube and some walls. That is what pretty much everyone uses. Do you know what I'm talking about or would you like me to link it for you? Also, please ignore luenardi, if you take a look at his avatar you'll find that he is a

Don't use Ultimate 3D with Game Maker 8.1: hardly any of the features still work by that version (at least on my machine). I think 8.0 might be alright, but I'd play it safe and use Game Maker 7 instead.

I'm sorry I have to disagree, everything will work except for one thing, which is not related to ultimate3d but a bug in GM itself, calling display_set_size() will cause a black screen. This only happens on the latest so called stable GM 8.1, if you have an older version of 8.1 you're fine. What features don't work for you? |

I had the same issues at first too. But then I went through all my scripts and corrected all the parameters for all the different U3D calls, and things turned out fine again. |
