Hello Ultimate 3D community, I'm TheStolenBattenberg, I've just moved from regular old GM 3D too ultimate 3D, It's quite fun. Anyway, I've got a little issue in what I'm working on currently. The problem is - I'm not sure how I can create an effect with a sword model I've got, I'd like to get it to swoop down from the top right of the screen. Now, I've got the sword drawing to the screen, and appearing and removing its self, it's just that I'm not sure how I can make it do this little... animation, if you can call it that. If this is not possible without a special mesh, well darn, Because I can't make models for my life(Animating would be a death sentence). Anyway, I did notice that the Ultimate 3D has stopped with game maker, so I'm unsure of the community being around still, I hope someone can give me a hand anyway. If you need too see how I've drawn it too the screen or how it's created/destroyed, message me or something. |

Hi, and welcome to the community. You do not need to animate models in programs like Anim8or to get them to animate. You can do this programmatically but it may be a bit trickier depending on how advanced the animation should be. What I usually do for sword swing animations, is if I have a animated bone, I simply attach the sword to that bone so it follows its movements. But in those cases I've animated the bones in 3dsMAX. Or you can simply use the rotx/y/z variables to manipulate the rotations of the sword dynamically and maybe also alter the x/y/z coordinates with Move(). |

Alright, thanks for the response and welcome, I messed around with using rotx/y/z & the x/y/z, although it looks a little odd, it shall do for now! |

It may look odd if you sword model has a weird origin. You can alter this by using vectors or simply change the origin in the modelling program and re-exporting it. Optimally you would want the rotation origin at the hilt. |
