From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

spring training

Leaving for Vindo in 12 hours! Of course it takes nearly 24 hrs to get there from Wisconsin (upper midwest of the "Colonies".

I have been prepping by doing Navvie work for the wife's new garden project. Holes have been dug and stones moved about. Of course, with the every vigilent eye for small finds. The muscles are tuned up and I expect in the next two weeks to find:

At least one coin.
Maybe an inscription.
Certainly something that neither Justin nor Andrew can identify!

Jealous! Hope you have a fab dig, and the weather holds! Gardening season is definitely a good Vindo prep.

Safe travels, and looking forward to seeing/reading what you've dug up.

Coins--check, albeit shabby little 4th century bits.
Inscription--debatable. I did find a lead plumb bob that had a stamp on it.
Weird thing so far unidentified--check. Odd triangular bronze object, maybe enameled.
    Good times and good digs.
