From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

Happy New Year!!
Just a quick note to wish everyone a fabulous revelry this evening and a great 2009. Coming off the year we've just had, it could hardly get any... oof... Let me just bite my tongue and not finish that thought. B)

Anyway, many happy returns, and I'm best wishes to all for great things in the year ahead.

In a completely predictable turn of events, the migration from one server to another has mixed up many of the photo attachments. I'm currently trying to reorganize and put things back the way they belong. But there will likely be some threads that I just can't fit back together with the right pics. If you've got a favorite post or thread or pic and it's butchered up, please don't hesitate to let me know! I'll do my best to hunt down the right pic & get it in the right place.

I've also noticed that the photos no longer have thumbnails. I'm trying to pin down what happened and how to fix. The much-vaunted "ease of use" and "customisability" of this new board system has left me underwhelmed. But determined!

In other news, there is an easy trick to knowing which forums have new posts. On the left column, each forum has a picture of a folder. If the folder is empty, there's no new posts since you last visited. If there's a piece of paper in the folder, it's got something new!

I wish it was a bit clearer. It's on my list of things to do -- just a matter of hunting through all the code they dump onto the site to figure where they're grabbing their folder pics from. Once I find where that is, I can choose two different pictures that will hopefully be much more obvious.

I suppose that depends on what other colour schemes/layouts are available, but if you give us a choice you'll never find one that suits everyone so we're probably best not knowing!
:-/
I just found a neat trick. Scroll down to the far bottom-left of the page. There you'll find a drop-down menu where you can change the theme/skin to one of the ones I've uploaded in my admin section. I've only just started tweaking the designs, and am definitely on a steep learning curve trying to figure out which piece of the -huge- code changes what. But in the end hopefully I can give you all a choice of several different "skins" to choose from, which just might be the win-win I was hoping for!

Hey Nic. Snuck up on me too, believe me! And I'm just discovering the problem with read/unread posts myself. I'm going to spend a few days hunting around for skins that will make it much clearer where the unread & read posts are.

The skin & color scheme that's up now is the default one that ZetaBoards gave me. I hadn't planned on keeping the colors. But if you guys prefer them to what was there, then I'll try to make sure the new skin uses them too!

Hi all!

As you can see, the service company has now migrated WeDigVindolanda over to its new "Zetaboards" system. In the long run, this new format will give the board much more flexibility, and hopefully usefulness. But in a lot of ways I'm starting at Square One relearning how to organize, skin, arrange, etc.

So if you'll bear with me through the transition, I'll be working to learn how to make the absolute best use of everything the new board system has to offer.

In the meantime, welcome to WeDigVindolanda 2.0.... ish!

Happy Holidays,
Harry
