From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

Any chance of getting some of that sunshine on this side of the Pond please? It's been drizzling in Maine for 4 days straight. Makes me think of, well, Northumberland.

Your coolest find
Fabulous! Ah, back in the day. Still can't believe that's going-on 4 years ago now. Back when I thought Northerners sounded Scottish... and Justin sounded Welsh. :D

Share with care!
It is so fun seeing the dig unfold week to week. The posts & pics have been great! It is a shame that we have to use any caution in talking about specific finds, and we certainly don't want to nip the conversations in the bud.

So as folks post, just two basic groundrules to keep in mind:

1. Before you describe anything you've found, imagine if you could picture it being sold on eBay. If so, please think twice.

2. If you are keeping a personal blog, awesome. But rather than linking to your blog site here at the forum, please consider posting here a quick cut-and-paste of selected text from your blog. As administrator, my #1 responsibility is security. And I can't maintain security on linked sites.

Thanks all, and keep the posts coming!

Best,
Harry

Wow, that Severan wall is a disaster. Must've been the work of the roundhousers. "Buy local" they said, "support the native industry" they said.

Your coolest find
Hi Dave! Wow. 2003.... I can't believe that was 4 years ago now.

But I'm bummed--I couldn't open the PDF file to see the picture. I was looking forward to seeing what a young whippersnapper I was back in the day.

Thanks to everyone! Yeah, Sam and I think she's a keeper. Of course we're sleep-deprived enough that we might be living in a hallucinogenic web of lies. But we're OK with that. :)

It's incredible when they first look at you; it's disturbing when you realize you're now totally unfazed by the grossest of bodily movements; and it's really disturbing when you're contemplating saving the umbilical cord stump that just fell off because it's a "milestone."

Thanks Kate & Sandy! Kate, yep, you and Kathy were right next to Sandy & me. I think you guys were looking for the turning of the old Stone Fort I wall right?

And yes, hopefully Ruby's first words will be "WHS please". She's already got the grip for it!

Here's a little family pic.

TTYS,
Harry

It is with extreme pride that I'm happy to announce the birth of Ruby Millicent Johnson! She arrived Wednesday at 1:34 PM, weighing 8 lb 10 oz, and 21 inches long. She's alert, strong, expressive, interested, cuddly. And she smells amazing.

Mom, Dad, & Ruby are doing well. Ruby's fighting a touch of jaundice, but is otherwise perfect! (Unbiased, I know.) She should be coming home in the next day. Mom had a C-section and 3 days later is back in street clothes, off medications, and home. If Ruby's got half of her constitution, she's going to do just fine in this world.

I was debating putting this posting under the "Your Coolest Find" forum, but thought better of it.

Thanks to all for your thoughts & wishes over the months. We still have no idea what we've gotten into, but we know it's good!
