From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

Session 5
Those of you who enjoyed last year's blog from Alex & Beth and their Western Classical Studies students, take cheer: The blog & students are back! http://westernclassicalstudies.wordpress.com/

It's a fab daily write-up of Vindolanda as seen (mostly) by first-timers, and the enthusiasm & excitement of just plain being there makes for a fun read. Also, as the season progresses, the blog will likely give some good information on what's happening over in the North Field.

Session 5
That is one impressive robber trench smack-dab in the middle there! Thx much for the photos, looks like a great start to the new session.

Session 4
Question for those in the know. So, sitting here 3,000 miles away, here's what I see in one of bishpt's great pics:

Posted Image

Wall 1 is the southern east-west running wall that died into the robber trench.

Does it connect with north-south Wall 2? (Meaning, are they part of the same building?) And is it / are they connected to the very long east-west Wall 3 that was found early in the year?

Lastly, the arrow points to what looks like flagstone flooring going up & over Wall 1. If Wall 1 is 4th C, does this mean the flag floor is part of an even later building, maybe post-Roman?

I -so- wish I was there this year. This jumble of walls & floors & roads & drains is incredible!

Session 4
So many great photos! Striking to me how far down you're all having to dig to get to the 3rd C intervallum road. An amazing amount of build-up on top of it.

Ads removed
Hi all!

Sorry for the recent spate of ads. WeDig's popularity blew through our ad credits faster than I had anticipated! I've re-upped the credits, so the site should be ad-free again.

Badger, catching up now on your Detritus of Empire daily reports. Really neat! Everyone should have a read.
