From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

Ooh! Antonine tablets? That -is- cool! Am I right that we don't yet completely know what was going on at Hadrian's Wall during the time that the frontier had been moved up to the Antonine Wall? How fantastic if these tablets can shed some light on that!

And more power to whoever gets the task of reading the incised wax tablet. Since those things tend to get reused there might be multiple layers of text cut into it, right? Yikes.

And I'm with Matt. Can't wait to see some pics, hear some stories, see some real life on these pages!

Just ask Octavius, the guy from one of the tablets writing that he was delayed because he didn't want to risk injuring his animals on the bad roads.

I've always loved that one. What's the one thing all the archaeology shows drill into your head about the Romans? Their amazing roads. What's one of the first things that Robin & crew pull up from the gloop? A letter complaining about the cruddy roads. Priceless!

Any News?
Wow. Puddles, puddles, and more puddles. What a year.

And is it my imagination, or are those some of the wonkiest, mankiest stone foundation walls ever? That's on par with some building contractors I've come up against! (Myself of course not included)
