From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

Cheers Guys,

Thank you as always for the much appreciated support. We are re-grouping and thinking about our options after the failed lottery bid, and will keep you all posted about opportunities to help/get involved in the work that the Vindolanda Trust undertakes in 2008 and beyond.

As for the calendar....well...Harry...lets just say we are trying to raise funds..not put people off their breakfasts :-)

Although we could do a similar thing for the volunteers......:-) there are more of you.

Dear wedigvindolanda.com members,

All the very best to everyone for the festive season from the Vindolanda staff, we are looking forward to catching up with you next year and hope that 2008 will be a great year. Vindolanda will be closed on Christmas day, but will be open every day apart from that, 10am -4pm, so if you are about the place don't be a stranger, say hello and come in for a mince pie (for the unsuspecting Americans out there, it is a traditional savoury pie, not a mince meat effort :-) ).

Christmas Message from the Director of the Trust
Dear Excavation volunteers,Friends & supporters.

On behalf of The Vindolanda Trust, I would like to thank you all for your interest and involvement with our aims and objectives during 2007. Your contribution to our work is invaluable.

I know that many of you are aware of our 2.8 million Heritage Lottery Fund application and I am sad to report that we have been unsuccessful in our bid for funding. We know that our project to increase access, volunteer & education opportunities and public involvement at Vindolanda & The Roman Army Museum was very strong but we are also aware of the fierce competition for a limited amount of HLF funding.

That is now 'water under the bridge' and we look forward to 2008-2012 excavation programme and to welcoming both old and new hands to Vindolanda for another round of active archaeology at what we believe to be the most exciting Roman site in Britain.

We send you all our very best wishes for the festive season and 2008,

Patricia Birley

Director Vindolanda Trust

Happy Birthday Sophia!
Cheers Harry,

Sophia is fine, and thank you for your birthday wishes, the best to you and your family for the festive period :-) .
