From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

New Roman Finds From Britain
Roman Rabbits in Britain?

Whatever next? Roman Grey squirrel?

read all about it.

The debate here is..... do they arrive with the Romans or after. Rabbits are traditionally added to the Norman conquest in 1066. However, we might have to let old Norman off the hook on this one.

Wet weather gear
Mat,

get over here, go to Carlisle, go to the mainstreet near the TIC and visit a store called tresspass. Problem sorted at a very reasonable price compared to most of the expensive gear you can pick up, and lets face it, on the excavation it will get trashed.

P.S. Sadly, no, I don't own shares in the company although I should do the amount I get there... ;)

Granary Excavation continuing...
Hi Harry,

Behind the cross wall in the western granary is another raised floor, set on to a mixed rubbled and concrete base and raise on stones. The floor is incredibly heavy, heavier than the original granary floor. Date - 5th -9th century.
