From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

Week 11.

Another stunning week with anaerobic ditches, wooden posts, hearths, sooty floors (oh my head is spinning!) The week has to be most notable for the tablet that popped out on Thursday proving the point that the written material can survive a full 200m to the west of previous find spots. Good news for all concerned with furthering our knowledge of Vindolanda's people.

Unbelieveably the weather held firm for another week, but can it hold on for another 2hours for 'Friends night?'

A huge thank you to the hard working crew of week 11, it turned out to be quite some week, and we made good progress towards understanding that particular part of the site. Cann't wait for next week now.......

Week 10.

Apologies for the delay in posting this week. Lecturing, busy week at work etc (oh ok and a golf competition;p) kept me from getting to this until now.

Anyway, a great many thanks for everyone's hard work in week 10. The treanch began to show some realy promise with wooden posts emerging and patches of laminated flooring. Again a week of some super finds and the weather even held up for another week. How long can this keep up?

Week 9.

In World Cup week where away Gauls definitely counted double (thanks Jack for the joke of the season!) we were rained seriously on for the first time this year - surely some form of record!

Nevertheless we accomplished much in the other four days and now have two early ditches, a possible period IV timber building complete with a surviving patch of floor!!!!!! :-D as well as the remaining vicus area. Also might it be possible that we have the top of a well? Hmmm much to carry on with next week.

Many thanks to the digging team of week 9 from far flung parts of the globe as well as closer to home. We made positive headway this week and it was great to work along side you all.

Week 8.

Wow, ret hot weather and red hot archaeology! Anaerobic laminate layers in area B? Phew its all be going on.... We hit a nice ditch full of nice soils and also apppear to have the bones of a timber building emerging from the depths.

It is fair to say it has been another brilliant week, aided by glorious weather and yet another great team of excavators. Thanks to everyone and here's hoping it continues next week.
