From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

It probably will look like your photo Eric when we all arrive the week after next! and all of the wheelbarrows are squeaking - must remember the WD40!! :)

I salute you, and all the redoubtable 'A Team' members. I shall wave at you from Justin's area.

(OTOH, Justin may just set me to wheeling endless barrow-loads from both areas as punishment for my hubris.)

You liked the spoil heap? This is the south-west face
Dang. It's the Matterhorn, so it is.

Now, this is in Area A, right? Not Justin's area?

(Wipes wet brow with shaky hand, sobs in relief, promises to make offering to Vindolanda's patron deity, 'Twicey'.)

Anthea it reminds me of the spoilheap from 3 years ago in area B. Justin had us climbing higher and higher, needed oxygen at the top.
It's good for one's health. I'll keep reminding myself of that. :)

LOL! Masada much?

That's one frightening spoilheap. And only early June!
Clearly I have too much 'Roman Army on the Brain'....

Hi Eric - so glad to hear you'll be joining us soon! I'm sure we can find an appropriate corner of the trench to match your unique abilities.
I'm ready--I'm simply itching to roll around in a nice, muddy wallow....

Week 10.

My word, what a week! After weeks of trowelling cobbles we suddenly have potential gateways (actually Tony and Marcel's 'temple'- see previous post), ramparts, roads, ditches and buildings. Well, that's the interpretation based on what we can see so far, but things really took off this week and the next few weeks should be very interesting indeed. A huge thank you to the week 10 crew, even with the worst that Neptune could throw at us we accomplished a great deal this week so thanks for all your hard work.
Such interesting hints! By the time I get there (yes, 'Manky Yankee Week' is fast approaching) I expect to see all sorts of things!

It's good to see David, too!
