From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

Tick off the days to digging
This time next week I'll have completed day one of week one - I'm so excited!

I'll make sure my photos are posted asap once I'm back home.

Where to go?
Its a couple of years since we did it now, but we went on the main roads and I think it took about 2 hours so it is quite a long drive, but worth it. If you time it right you can combine it with a visit to Bamburgh or Dunstanburgh.

Where to go?
If you're in the National Trust there are plenty of places to visit, such as Cragside nr Rothbury and Wallingford. You also get access to Housesteads which is manged by NT and English Heritage. If you fancy going further afield you could try Lindisfarne if the tide times are okay. We went to Warkworth castle up on the coast a couple of years back (think that one was English Heritage) which was excellent. You could combine it with the walk to the ruin of Dunstanburgh Castle (NT) and the privately-run Bamburgh Castle. nice beach if the weather's good too!

We got the train to Edinburgh once which was good, and have got the train to Durham a couple of times too.
