From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

Week 15 (and 14 recap!)
That sounds interesting Kev. If anything needs doing down in the museum or anything I'm up for that too, just can't get down on my hands and knees or handle soil due to infection risk. Grrr!!!

Glad I got my digging fix in May!

Week 15 (and 14 recap!)
Thanks for the rather tantalising photos Kev. Have you got plenty of pot for me to wash next week while I'm banned from actually digging?

A little advice if possible
Hi

You'll be able to stand outside the fenced area so it depends on how close to the fences the digging is taking place. The trench-side talks in the afternoon are a useful source of information, usually in the afternoons I think. There are sometimes guided tours during the summer months too.

When you go to excavate you'll be given an introduction to the site and paired up with a 'dig buddy', someone who has been before. My daughter and I have been digging for 7 years now and started out with no previous experience. I'm sure you'll be just fine.

Enjoy!

Fund raising
Well it was a great concert - shame on you if you weren't there!

I only raised 10 as far as I know but every little helps doesn't it?

See you next year?

Week 13
Was it from the Roman equivalent of B and Q then???

From the 'garden features' section perhaps!

Week 13
Re the altar - could it have been some sort of practice piece? It looks like something you'd make in primary school when the children are studying Romans!
