From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

Advice for getting from Newcastle to the site?
The Stanegate at Vindolanda Westgate looked rather impassable last week, certainly to road traffic. End of last June it suffered a lot of damage to the surface during a really bad storm and it didn't look much better last Friday, so do watch your step if you go down this route. Easy to twist your ankles on it.

Now there's something you don't see every day....
Last Friday when we visited, the weather was trying to snow, all very wet and miserable.

The school children didn't mind - usual noisy lot round the replica buildings with the teachers trying to keep some control.

Quite a few trees and bushes taken out in the Museum gardens... no nice private corners anymore where you could sit and eat your sandwiches.

Just hope the weather is not snowing a blizzard second week of May! :D
