From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

Thanks for your comments Sue and Harry. Matt our illustrious HJCB team leader is a little quiet so I assume he is tired from all his digging. If anyone can find more it is him and we will be so pleased if he does.
I have been spreading the word in Dorset and my local society are very excited. Perhaps their annual trip next year will take in a visit to the site?

Here are a couple more photographs, firstly a close up and then a photo of me spreading the word at our summer excavation site in the Purbecks. May well tell you about that site in the coming weeks?

Did anyone take a picture of Kate and I holding the calendar? We would be most grateful if they could post it as we cannot remember in the chaos after the find.

Bonekickers!..
I have seen a total of about two minutes of the programme and it is something akin to 'Eldorado' meets 'Relic Hunter' meets a 1950s B movie. Shll not be tuning in to that one anymore.
Does anyone like it? Perhaps they should have got Ricky Gervaise to star in it?
:(

Cheers Harry have a drink to celebrate. The two weeks we were digging were just fantastic and with this find I can only say that it was the icing on the cake. I wish I could be up there more often. It certainly is the find of my short excavating career and I will be happy just finding pot and the odd fort wall in the future.

Bryan

Kate I hope HJCB leader is not too mad at us. I think you should add a few words about the find and your first impressions when we realised what we had found.
:D

At last Kate and I have been given permission to shout out to the world about our greatest ever find which we uncovered on 7/7/2008. Andy told us that the press release went out on friday in the Hexham Courant, and I will post the link to the article in a few minutes, announcing the finding of a fragment of a portable calendar. We were sworn to secrecy and have been struggling to keep mum for all this time.
We would just like to say a big thank you to Andy and Robin and the rest of the team and we are so happy to have found such a unique artifact.

We wanted to be the first to post my picture of the calendar so here it is for those of you who weren't there to witness the dicovery.

Look at this happy face. A penny for her thoughts? Ok perhaps a ringpull off a can of coke would be fair payment?

Hi Zig I am glad to be the first person to force you into posting on the site. I was really pleased with that pic of Chris. Did you take any picks and how did your second week go?
