From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

You didn't photoshop those sunny skies in did you?

Week 17
I would take that oak leaf over any conventional small find. That, my friends, is a bit of history. Fallen leaves from the 3rd century AD.
I don't suppose you have a better pic of it, that one is out of focus.
When I am on site I try and snap any interesting small things (getting permission from A and J where necessary). And I always snap them from several angles and distances. Just to make sure I get one good picture of something precious.

North Field is a very speculative place. I am content to wait for Andrew and Justin to sort it out.

Week 17
Looking forward to the eventual dating of the enigmatic North Field.

My take on the distance from trench to Twicey by foot. Yes, in the morning you have to walk to the Hedley end of things...but you are walking off that ridiculous breakfast! And at the end of the day, when ale beckons, you can just head out the west gate and save a few hundred yards.

Ah yes, Justin (or Iustin) was the uncle of Justinian. If you really need an image I have an interesting coin from Justin. It is appears to be one of the really small, thin gold coins (a tremissis I think) but is in fact a forgery with base metal peeking through. Nice image of Justin though...

Sarcanon, thanks for the Bardon Mills tip. When we get around to tweaking WeDig in the off season we should add that as a button on the site. I hear we have a new admin who will crack the whip. The peasants groan....

Week 16
I do peek at the forecast out of Hexham now and then. It does not seem to correlate all that well with Vindo, but the weather did not look beyond salvage....

Justin-T glad you have recovered your identity. Is it Justinian or his father Justin, or some other dignified chap?

The issue must be on your computer. On mine we are our respective regal and furry selves.

Week 15
Even from long distance it hurts just a little to see areas backfilled. Near as I can decypher there were areas we just touched in May that never got excavated due to water issues. Now buried. Ah, Moses glimpses the Promised Land. How frustrating it must be for Andy and Justin who go through this all the time.
