From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

Cleaning, recording, cataloging, surveying. There are so many questions to be asked about a site & the landscape around it.
I'd certainly be up for this.

I LOVE digging, but I'm also trying to get some experience of other aspects of archaeology. I'm currently doing a 1 day per week placement at the Museum of London's archaeological archive and I've signed up for a course on archaeological illustration at Sussex Uni in the new year.

If I could do 1 or 2 weeks of digging and a week of surveying, recording, cataloguing, preparing finds for archiving etc I'd be happy. :D

As always I guess it comes down to the resources available at Vindolanda as to whether even more volunteers can be accommodated in whatever capacity. There must come a point at which it just becomes too unwieldy.

That frown has officially been turned upside down. From disaster to triumph in 24 hours, as I now have the dates that I was after all booked.

The actual booking process was indeed very straightforward. Also, being signed up to the email for updates was also great, as I was sent an email this morning about the updated opportunities, so even if Andy hadn't given the heads up yesterday I would still have stood a chance.

Many thanks to Andy, and now Sad Sunny is definitely Happy Sunny :D

Well I tried to book at lunchtime, but had wifi problems. My friend then tried to book for me, but with no luck either and now it seems that it's all totally sold out. Gutted. :(
I'm on the waiting list so I'll just have to hope that I can get at least one week in sometime in the season

Sad Sunny :(
