From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

Oh, what to do...
Hi Noodlefun,

it would be a real shame to cancel your second week, although I totally understand that sometimes financial constraints trump preferences.

I usually stay at the youth hostel at Once Brewed, and that works out pretty inexpensive, although not as inexpensive as camping. However, a real money-saver is self-catering, so if you can find a camp site or bunk barn with cooking facilities you can save a fortune on eating out. Just pick up some shopping on the way there at Haltwhistle or Hexham.

I just did a quick search and the Hadrians Wall Caravan & Camp Site has cooking facilities. I can't actually recommend it, as I've never stayed there, and it is further away than Windshields, so you'd need to weigh it up.

All the best and I hope that you enjoy your digging stint, even if you do have to shorten it.

Week 9
Oh no. We can't call 4d "Sunny Valley" any more, despite the ironic turn in the weather ;)

Roman Altars from Lewisvale Park
New website launched by AOC Archaeology about Roman remains excavated at Lewisvale Park in Musselburgh. In particular two altars, one to Sol and the other to Mithras (rubs hands together with glee)

Week 9
Hi Paul,

thanks for the photos.
Having spent 2 weeks in that trench, I really do want to see what's going on at the bottom of it!

MooseandHobbes (AKA Sunny :D )

Week 8
All I have to add to that is..."oooooh"

Week 8

Week 6

When worlds collide
Hey Tim,

I'll be around on Sunday, so I'll pop in and look for jeg-lagged Americans, nursing a pint and trying not to think about the damp :D

I only dig at Vindolanda because I love mud and rain so much.

Week 5
Ooh, it's looking good.
I can't wait for the weekend to come and I'll be on my way oop norf. :D
