From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

Thanks Harry! It was a great week, I wish I could have described the finds more completely...

Any team photo from Beth's group May 23-27?
Just finished a great week with Beth, as a splinter group from the main Area A team. Weather was good apart from the last afternoon, when we had to dodge some brief but heavy showers. We found the ditch we were looking for (although it was at 90 degrees from what was expected), made some nice finds.

Main reason for posting though, is that I foolishly didn't ask Malise to take a picture of the team with my camera for the shot at the tea hut. So Mark, Sheila, Charlotte, Jane, Kevin or Jonathan, if you did get one, can you please upload one here?

Thanks Tim, hoping to have seen the last of "de-turfing", but apparently it might be needed again before my week is over. Hopefully today we'll find that ditch...

Day two now up on the blog, including a picture of the jet object I found.

I'm doing a blog of my digging experiences on blogspot.

Here's the link: Justinian-T blog

The early entries are really for my family's benefit, but now that I'm actually digging I thought it might be of interest to readers of this forum.

Area A. April / May 2010
They look pretty worn to me, very rounded/smooth...?

I'm planning to take lots of pictures and post as many as I'm able to. In addition to closeups of finds I want to try to establish a set spot on day one and retake from there as the digging develops through the week, to give a sort of time-lapse effect. We'll see if I've got the energy/inclination when push comes to shove. ;)

Wow, you really did a lot in those 5 days; interesting pictures. I love the fact you can clearly see the road stones are worn from decades of heavy use. I'm thinking I may end up knowing those same stones rather well in 2 weeks time...

A virtual walk around Pompeii
Tim, thanks, its making sense now. I couldn't understand why their WiFi system would be blocking the forum, but it sounds like it should be fine, the problem is the ancient hard-wired machines they have. Thanks, it looks like updating my blog should work after all. B)

Glad to hear you got back safely & on time.

Tim, I think you were staying at the Twice Brewed, can you shed any more light on which kinds of websites are blocked on their wireless network?

Area A blog, May 2010
Thanks Tim & Fred, interesting reading as usual, and thanks Harry for posting the blog. Looking forward to seeing the pictures. Sorry to hear the small finds were not so abundant in Area A, but that will forever be "your" road... B)

Getting dig information to WeDig
Thanks Harry!

I have a specific question about what's accessible from Twice Brewed, given that its clear they have some form of blocking firewall set up. Can someone please test to see if access to Blogger.com is possible from there? I want to do a blog using it while I'm on site in a couple of weeks and don't want to waste my time setting something up before I leave if I won't be able to access it.

If you want to see what I've done so far and also test whether access is possible from the Twice Brewed Inn, here's where the blog is right now:

Bit of advice?

Alex, I think Mapquest UK will be able to tell you:
