From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

Beth's Area
I took the liberty of reducing them both, so here they are:

Massive fort panorama
Yes, I really hope we'll get a crane's eye view of the current state of the fort at the end of this digging season. When you're at ground level its almost impossible to make sense of all the stone that's now exposed.

Beth's Area
Thanks very much for posting these. Its been two weeks since I was there, and I can't figure out where the photos are in relation to the trench I left...

Can you point out the "first ditch" that was found, on any of the photos?

Any team photo from Beth's group May 23-27?
And the second one:

Jane sent me the originals (thanks!), so here they are again with Photoshop reduction so they look a bit less pixelated.

Massive fort panorama
Using the wonders of the Photoshop CS4 "photomerge" command, I managed to get a seamless panorama of the fort. I took it at around 5pm last week, after the storm had blown through on my last day of digging. The image is reduced in size from the original (208 Mb down to 1Mb!), but unless you have a truly massive monitor, it will fill your screen vertically and require some scrolling horizontally to see it all at full resolution. Enjoy!
