From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

A find in the Netherlands
Last week in Holland this article appeared in the "Algemeen Dagblad"-newspaper; I thought it might give some distraction from the dreary weather. There certainly is interesting archeology in this country, if you now where to look...
Here's a translation:

Archeologist finds beer in buried fridge

ASSEN - An archeologist in the province of Drenthe has found a "beer-hoard" with his metal-detector on the grounds of the TT-Assen racetrack. Peter Frikken (58) from Nieuw-Weerdinge couldn't believe his eyes when he was digging last Friday on a spot where his detector went berserk. "To my surprise I saw a fridge." A few moments later there was beer in abundance. "About 30 six packs."
Frikken had heard rumours about secret caches of beer that had been hoarded by visitors of the TT of Assen to avoid the
high prices of beer during the races. "I thought they were bogus stories. That is why at first I hesitated when the local TV-station asked me to investigate."
