From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

Vindolanda blog
Whilst still being a paper book person and I'd rather have a bookshelf than a kindle I have noticed on Amazon that Robins excellent book on Vindolanda and other books on the Vindolanda Tablets are now available on kindle, useful for those who have to travel light to excavate but would like to refer back to these books in the evenings, there's a kindle app on iPad so the books can be viewed that way.

Many thanks for the terrific winter photos. Snowglobe, would you mind if I used the photo of the Vindolanda temple as a screensaver? I have a late Spring one at present, it is good to be reminded of the harsh condtions the Romas endured (and subsequent populations, of course).
Many thanks,
Kathryn.
Hats off to the staff for keeping the site open and remaining cheerful. If you need a better resulution image of the temple e mail me via the roll call address I posted.

Some nice shots, thanks for sharing. You were, of course, the most appropriate WeDigger to be there today. B)
Never thought about that !

Wedig mention
Having got Clifford Jones book "Hadrians Wall" by history press for Christmas I have found he mentions Wedig and its guide to post roman things to look at in the area including the Chainley Burn walk. The book is available in the Vindolanda shop ( discount with a friends card).
For a walking guide the author is quite forthright about various aspects of wall theory and adds his own but it all adds to the mix and that's always a good thing.
