From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

Week 13
A glorious day today, some light drizzle early on then a bright dry day to finish the week, after bailing we hit the top of a nice double ditch. Satisfying finish to the week. Fast wrk by Andy and staff saved the museum from some nasty flood water.
Snowglobe signing off, no more digging this year.

Week 13
Got enough time this morning to shovel out mud and bail before the rain hit again, just missed being hit by lighting in the Twicy car park! Never been so lose to a bolt of lightning. Had a lecture by.Barbara this morning and Anthony gave a talk on the tablets this afternoon, rained off but the oppitunity to hear two experts talk was a treat. Photos to follow. Rain on a biblical level on site. They should have never lifted up that slab of stone!

Week 13
These feeds really need a "like" button. Sunny we'll get the trust to sent you incomplete tablets for translation but surely they should be eating gellato as Italians?

Week 13
De turfing is moving the trench west so you may get an answer in the coming weeks, alas I will be long gone.

Week 13
Rain all night and a misty morning which turned to rain, managed a mornings digging (sliding) then retired for a long lunch and a lecture on leather shoes by Beth.
Lodging photos with Harry, glad they are coming in useful.

Week 13
Thick mist shrouding the Twice Brewed this morning but looking dry, guess the Wedig crowd are all on holiday? any comments on photos welcome Is anyone viewing ?

Week 13
A dry day on site Andy and Justin's pumping has worked. All areas seem to be coming along well, defining the edges of a large roman ditch in the north field and plenty of areas providing interest in the vicus. Photos lodged with Harry, watch this space.

Week 13
Andy was in the trenches this afternoon pumping them out so hopefully the weather will behave? Never seen the ground in summer so waterlogged.

Week 12
Rain hitting the windows again at the twice brewed, horrendous day walking yesterday, looking drier for the week ahead ,Welles recommended if turning up Monday

Week 12
Oh well, group photograph at 10am says it all about the weather today. Hopefully better weather next week? Thanks for posting Andy.
Sent through images to Harry so givern the time difference it my be later before they appear?

Week 12
Rain pouring down again here on the Wall, thick mist shrouded the Twice Brewed last night ,very atmospheric.

Week 12
The app is called pannarma by wondershare software it's a free app not bad results ? Lovely warm day again with the ice cream kiosk doing a brisk trade. Diggers chasing the spring and continuing to de turf. Photos with Harry to post.

Week 12
Sadly no its my new iPhone app that takes panoramas but people will insist on moving around! Like the effect though. Hot sunny days on site so far this week. Currently seconded to the colonial outpost fort of north field, interesting features coming through. Let back through the fence for tea breaks however.

Week 11
Finished work today by selling off the last of my drought resistant plants between heavy rain showers, hopfully installed in Twice brewed tomorrow. Trowel packed.

Week 11
I will raise a glass to friends old and new, please print off and place on work desk if you cannot attend on Sunday night!

Week 11
Bag nearly packed and camera ready for next week, any diggers in the twice brewed pub this Sunday, see you there.

A day out
Allen Banks is a great walk through the woods along the river and up to Staward Peel tower, looking at the rock face I wondered if the romans extracted stone from there? One for Mike to answer.
