From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

Week 18
A few views of the site showing the consolidation of the fort, looking good. Temple Ave complete.

Week 18
More of trenches 8 and 9 with the last one for those who enjoyed tea break on the sunnier days.
Justin doing his afternoon talk, I took a photo to show how close the excavation has moved toward the temple.

Week 18
Beth and Alex are now recording the north field, safe trip back this weekend.
photo 1 across the ditches, the grey plastic pipe bottom left was added to help the roman drain cope. looking east
photo 2 looking south east
photo 3 lovely curved roman drain

Week 18
I called by the site this afternoon, a lovely sunny day and the diggers hard at work tidying the site ready for the high level photograph session.
Note the north field spoil heap centre right the first photograph

Week 15
I see the back fill creeping up on the section I helped dig in May. Sad but a bit of a water issue! Must dust down the camera for another visit soon.
Thanks for the updates, also Justin's photo tweets.

Week 15
Cheers for the photos Terry, despite the weather I hope the shorts are holding up? This is a record year for all the wrong reasons, hope this weeks diggers get some excavation in. Thanks to Harry for posting.

Week 13
Just returned from a trip to Avebury, lovely stone circle. Here are a few odd shots taken on the last friday of week 13.

Archaeology in the North Pennines
There's a brand new website for Whitley Castle near Alston http://www.epiacumheritage.org/ worth a look
