From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

2012 Barcombe Hill walk
Sue, really sorry but I was so engrossed in telling the story I didn't have time to take any photos. But I know a number of people did so could anyone who has a good piccy, particularly from last week (22nd), please post it for Sue.

For once the weather last Tuesday was fantastic and I was hoping quite a number of people would make it. But the sudden heat in the trenches had been so great during the day many people, not surprisingly, didn't have the energy for Barcombe afterwards. Those who did come were rewarded with some fantastic views. Thanks to all of you who came on either occasion, both for making the effort and for your many penetrating questions. Anything which makes me think about what's up there from a different point of view is always helpful.

Afraid it's unlikely I shall be able to do any more walks again this year. But I've sent my DIY guide off to Harry who will make it available on WDV when he's done the necessary processing.

It's been great to meet so many of you over the past three weeks. Hope to meet lots more of you at Friends evening in a few weeks' time.

Back in boring Derby now. Roll on next year.

2012 Barcombe Hill walk
The first of my walks went according to plan. I hope those of you who came enjoyed it. However, a number of people weren't able to come because they didn't want to miss their meal at the Hedley Centre. A great compliment to Pauline that you would want to eat her excellent food :P in the warm and dry rather than listen to me droning on on a cold and windy hilltop :'( At least we made it back on time at 7pm, 15 minutes before the monsoon started. Those of you who were on site this week will know what I mean. :X

As previously announced, I can't do a walk this coming week. To save a similar difficult choice for potential participants next week, I'm moving the date to Tuesday 22nd as Pauline doesn't cook for Hedley Centre residents on a Tuesday. Further details, plus some details for those who can't make that date and would like to go on their own, will appear here in a few days' time.

Look forward to meeting many more of you in the next couple of weeks. ;)
