From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

Midges! How bad are they really?
Vitamin K supplements work well as does a month of marmite on toast for breakfast prior to arrival.

I must agree wholeheartedly with you Gillian.

I have worked on about 8 different digs or surveys in the last 4 years, many on an annual basis. Additionally are many courses undertaken, there are countless ones throughout Britain from days through weeks plus online. Particular successes for me have been Oxford Online, Oxford and Cambridge residential, SHARP (NW Norfolk based) plus others.

Complacency in having Vindolanda as one's only excavating experience will not lead to a wide understanding of archaeology as a whole.

Current Archaeology and British Archaeology ( monthly publications) will provide contact details for myriad opportunities.

Last but far from least a belated thankyou! to Andy, Justin and Kevin who make Vindolanda excavating such a fantastic experience and I delightedly considered them all as friends. To this I shall add Patricia, Colin, Margie, Pauline, Fiona and Helen who complete the welcoming ambience that surrounds this special place in the hill side.
