From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

Session 9
After being rained off on Monday, we have had some fantastic weather. Work continues on the intervallum road (SE corner of excavation area) and on the barrack rooms (northern edge of the excavation area). A team has moved into the area on the edge of the robber trench (centre of excavation area), and another team has moved into the barracks on the southern edge of the excavation area.

Still lots of pottery, animal bone, etc being found. On Tuesday afternoon, the 1000th small find of the season was logged. Two samian pottery stamps have been found in the last two days. The first, found on the intervallum road, is complete and (according to Kate) reads SCOPLI.M. This potter dates to the late 2nd century. I found the second stamp while washing pottery up at the tea shed this afternoon. It is only part of the stamp, so we'll have to see if it can be associated with a specific potter.

A team of diggers participated at the pub quiz on Tuesday, but were decimated by the joker cards.

Session 9
After giving it a go for an hour, we were rained off the dig for the day. Justin gave us a lecture on the last 5 year plan (2008-2012), followed by a lecture by Kate on the pottery at Vindolanda, and her research on various pottery stamps.

Good weather forecast for the next few days, so I'll have some more photos soon!

Session 9
Again, excellent digging conditions. Not too hot, with a bit of a breeze and a bit of cloud cover. Lots of finds around the excavation. Everyone has been working in the same areas for the last few days.
