From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

Session 3
Yay, am enjoying reading the forum (have things I should be doing, you see) so good to know there will be more archaeology to see :D

Session 2
Thanks for the link to the large size pic of the altar - computer was mucking about and took me a while to see it. All fascinating.

'Pompeii of the North' - Museum of London Archaeology dig
It's very exciting and I'm all for new discoveries, particularly when they get people interested in archaeology/ancient history. From the odd comment I've heard (so don't shoot me as it's not much more than rumour), the tablets are stylus-type palimpsest. There is a good shot of one on this.

'Pompeii of the North' - Museum of London Archaeology dig
Not that Vindolanda has any competition from the southerners or anything.... http://www.museumoflondonarchaeology.org.uk/NewsProjects/Current-News/Pompeii+of+the+north.htm

For those who like to know these things; this year's T-shirt is a beige/cream number, with a fetching green circle on the back, bearing the Vindolanda 1800 years (213-2013) anniversary logo in classic white. A collectors item!
This is an important piece of information for female diggers, who need to know what coloured underthings to bring! Thank you :P

(slightly) more seriously, the pics are great and it all looks very interesting. Will be fascinating to see what is being revealed over the weeks ahead. Hope the weather holds good for you all
