From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

Week 14.

Well how extreme can the weather get at Vindolanda? Close to 30 degrees for half the week and then the local paper records 11,000 lightening strikes a minute over Hexham and an absolute deluge! Luckily the excavation wasn't too badly affected and things moved on this week. We definitely have a fancy gate respond for a gateway sometime earlier then the Severan period, when the gate was thensliced through by its large Western defensive ditch. Oh and there does seem to have been the odd phase or four of later roman building activity on the same site above - just normal area B stuff really ;) Anyway a special thanks to this week's crew who have without doubt had to put up with the hardest working conditions this season. Many thanks for your efforts and cheerful good company all week, you were brilliant to work with!
