From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

Week 17.

So we appear to have started digging in the tropics. Guaranteed rain every day at much the same time meaning frustration for all as we bucketed sponged and pumped water out of the trench only to see it flood back in. So a huge thank you to this weeks crew who cheerfully endured all of this, plus my bad moods and cursing of the weather too. Bizarrely enough we managed to achieve a great deal with a new road, cobbled needless to say, and post holes, floors etc from later vicus structures as well. I thoroughly enjoyed the humour in the trench this week and special mention must be made to mssrs Bunsen and Beaker who kept us all well amused with various pieces of wit and wisdom. Good luck to Beaker especially in his new career as a priate on the great Accountan sea. London won't know what's hit it. Good luck and I hope you enjoy it although I suspect you have missed your vocation in life as a cake tester for Mr Kipling!

Might the malarial miasmas arising from the Great Northumbrian Jungle be getting to you? Never before in the history of the English language has there been an oblique reference to the Muppet Show and a Freudian typo referencing Priapus occurring in a single sentence!

Tim Wolter

advance warning, I have my brother talked into a trip next spring. We shall lift more barrows and pints than the rest of the crew combined.
