From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

Day 3 : Tim - I think that is the ultimate aim - early days yet. I'm not au fait with what the other teams are doing, but our team are in the process of chasing a very long barrack wall northwards and getting closer to the North Gate. We've also removed soil to the depth of about 5 inches and are down to small cobbles in places. No significant finds, mainly 3rd century pottery.
Overnight rain left the site a wee bit soggy, so we all decamped to Carvoran at 9.30 (inspecting new museum and the 3D movie - not to be missed!). Early lunch and finally started excavations at 12.45. Teams are rotating pottery washing and surveying, each lasting a good hour. The pottery being washed is from the 2009, 2010 and current excavations.
The weather was much improved this afternoon, though a tad windy. Good forecast for the next two days!
Tomorrow night is the "get together" buffet night commencing at 18.30. This will be in the new Hedley Building and will be a regular Thursday night attraction.
