From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

Just back from week 18 - I was pot-washing during week 17 as my burns finished healing so can't really report on what was happening in the trenches.

Week 18 was a bit of a wash-out on Tuesday and Thursday but the diggers were treated to lectures from Andy (Vindolanda overview and recent news), Trudy ( forensic archaeology and the work surrounding the child's skeleton found last season) and Barbara (jewellery).

Andy had to come in from his holidays Tuesday - Thursday as poor Justin was struck down by a nasty dose of tonsillitis.

We were working in Zone 2, 3rd room up from the road. This appears to have been a workshop area and was fairly 'quiet' except for lots and lots of slag!

I gather some people were working on Justin's ditch but get the impression that the most memorable thing there was the smell!!

Here are some photos from the actual digging days (Monday, Wednesday, Friday).
