From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

Thanks I worked as a volunteer at Bestwall Quarry, near Wareham, in Dorset and there was a large black burnished ware pottery production site there, amongst many other things.
I was hoping that there may be a link with the Vindolanda BBware.
Unfortunayely I did not work on the kiln sites as that area had been finished before I joined the project, however I did find many shards on other areas of the quarry.

You might scoff Harry but the pottery has been estimated as producing up to 1,000,000 pots a year.
Where do you think Wedgewood learnt the trade?
:D  :D
