From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

I was wondering a few days back ( I believe it was more like day dreaming!) if the temples found last year are part of a special burial area. Maybe something to do with officers or important town officials. The wall remains found north and this year east of the temples could be part of a temenos boundary setting off the burial area specially reserved. So the temples could be fancy mausolea. I wonder if any highly burned areas were found south of the temples. I know a road went to the south but it may not have always been there, at least not at first. There is an occurence of mausolea marked off by a wall with possible funeral pyre remains near Roman Corbridge so I wonder if there was a time when postings along the Wall all had special burial areas.
