From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.
Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!
Thanks for 7 great years!

This looks brilliant to me. A virtual map of Rome AD320 that they are looking to turn into a virtual world. What a great idea - online gaming and archaeology mixed. Can't wait for this to be available: http://technology.timesonline.co.uk/tol/ne...icle2583317.ece I think an online virtual world based around Hadrian's Wall with characters able to play all sorts of roles would be fantastic. I would love to play a soldier on the wall in the middle of winter just waiting for the attack - cold, wet and terrified, or the barbarian having to make my way through Sycamore Gap with missiles flying overhead, or the local making pottery for the fort and trying to earn a living. Even better would be throwing out the rubbish for the diggers to find 2000 years later! Ok I will go and calm down now but does anyone know a good online games company who might be interested?

If I was on Hadrian's wall in winter all I would be waiting for would be that parcel containing the subligaria!!!

Holy smokes. If they turn that into an MMORPG I'm so there. The only catch would be how to balance that with my current love, Lord of the Rings Online... If only ancient Rome had Balrogs. Turbine makes LOTRO, and does a pretty amazing job of it. But I'm guessing their hands are tied with it for the near future. You're right, how great would it be to experience the Wall in its glory, even if only virtually. - Harry |
