From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

Wow!

These are brilliant! Talk about quick return-on-investment, no? And what an appetite-whetter. The bit of floor you've exposed also looks beautiful; nice to see it still there. Any sign yet of an underfloor ventilation system like at Corbridge?

And I love the chamfering! (Merriam-Webster online also shows "f" and not "ph", so that's where my money is.) I'd never seen that before in any of the granaries that are exposed along the Wall. Beautiful piece of work, that.

Thanks a ton, Nic, for the post and for kicking off the season here on the forum. Hope this is the start of many great things! But please, no more snow! Here in Maine we've just endured our 22nd snow/sleet/ice storm of the season yesterday, and more of the evil flakes are falling today. Curse them.

Great shots Kate! Wow. Someone really robbed the heck out of that granary huh. Is there anything left of it going west from where it peters out? Or is it a goner?

Am I right that it's usually the south side of a granary that would have had the door and the portico and the access ramp? Or did that vary?
