From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

Hi all team week one members.

Thank you all for your incredible efforts this past week in some truely challenging weather conditions. Despite this we achieved a great deal and learned a lot about the site in a short period of time.

1. we only seem to have one granary, the other building is impressive and at present remains a mystery, more to follow......... whats more, the other building has been demolished beofre the granary fell over its demolished remains.

2. the floor in the granary survived in patches and the underfloor is made up of columns in hypercaust style, thus far.

best,

Andy

Edition of the one granary theory....

newsflash....

we can now confirm that the second building did indeed start out life as a granary as well. As the excavation progressed on Sunday/ Monday it became clear that it's buttress had been demolished and replaced by a normal wall, but was surviving at an earlier level, thus confirming its use as a granary in it's primary phase....

more to follow....
