From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

Hi everyone!
Just about thawed out after week one.
Here a couple more photos for you to peruse - Jo and i were working on an area that should have been something of a mirror image of where Nic was, but didn't actually fulfil this at all!
Here is Allendale, 3am Sunday 23rd March 2008. As we were staying in a cottage at the bottom of a rather steeply sloped valley with no phone reception we were a bit worried that we might not actually make it in on the first day at all, and were contemplating sending smoke signals!

Fortunately the road cleared, and Andy wasn't going to let a bit of snow get in the way or archaeology!

Heavy rain overnight on Wednesday left the trip to the spoil heap/swamp treacharous, so digging came to an abrupt halt until a short session after lunch. At least it gave us an opportunity to get some of the pot washed from week one!

More floor and a rather large stone, something to do with the hypocaust according to Andy. Sorry, I'm a music teacher and I don't really get all the technical stuff! Andy, can you help me out here?!
