From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

It seemed very popular last year so I decided to run another rogues gallery of team photographs for each week during the 2008 season. Here is the crew from week 1. Many thanks to all three of you for working through some pretty nasty weather to give the season such a great start. I hope to see you all again soon.

Week 2.

Well I thought it wasn't any drier or warmer than week 1, but when Davide could dig all week with his cheerful smile and no complaints after coming in from Palermo, maybe I'm just getting soft! Thanks for all your hard work folks.

No week 3 as I was on holiday so straight to WEEK 4.
The small in number, but extremley powerful super-duo!
What a week, Baltic winds, Biblical rains, Hand numbing cold..... if it hadn't been for the good company and enthusiasm I might have packed in and gone home! Thanks for all your help ladies, it was great fun working with you again.

Week 5.

The heat wave continues as you can see from the excavating attire, however, another small but dynamic team saw good progress made. Thank you for your efforts lads!

Week 7
Apologies everyone. A nasty case of some vile lurgy saw me forced off the dig for 3 days and shed a stone in weight in the process. (now if I could only bottle that as a weight loss technique......) Anyway, I didn't manage to capture a team shot for the week so I'm sorry for that, but thatnk yo all for your hard work.

Week 8.

Well the bad luck with injuries continued this week with Nigel ending up with a golf ball hidden in his elbow. Nothing to do with the dig but more liklely through elbowing chefs at work at RAF Conningsby! Luckily Marcel cheered us all up with special treats from France, and Roger with his endless Limericks and jokes, which were much appreciated by everyone!

So the team photo returns, but with the notable absence of Nigel 'Basher' Barker.

Week 9,

The amazing run of dry weather continued and mysterious apses / roundhouses, and Gordon's constant stream of small finds kept things ticking along nicely. However, illness struck again (nowt to do with my own bug I hasten to add) so Steve and Bob are missing from the team shot. (hope the groin gets better soon Bob, it can only imporve that golf swing of yours! :P ).

Week 10.

Well here's what the midges didn't eat of the week 10 team! Humid weather and long grass - a combination the little beggars seem to love. However, most of them seemed attracted to Tony's knees so it wasn't all bad. A good week with some real progress made in our understanding of the outer reaches of the vicus. Thank you all for your hard work and company.

Week 11.

A good team with the addition of some vagabond who they found sleeping rough in a car park, took pity on and tempted to the dig! :P Cheers everyone

Week 12.

The best looking team of 2008 so far???? well the midges thought so anyway! Lucky we had lots of dead grass and two Dutch pyromaniacs to keep them at bay - well relatively speaking anyway.

Week 13.

A week that seemed to have as many professional archaeologists on the dig as volunteers! Lots of exciting finds and great conversation too. Ed once again proved he is as handy with a 7iron as with a trowel and I'm sure John won't be long in training Merry to dig holes and sniff out finds. Week 13 was also the final week for the lads from the University of Leiden. Their 4 week stint seems to have flown by and i'm sure I speak for all who met them when i with them both 'goed geluk met uw studies'

Week 14.

Not quite the quality of a Henning Halck photo, but at least everyone is looking at the camera. :P Thank you very much Eric as well, I'm sorry I didn't get the chance to say goodbye and I hope you managed to sort everything out back in Scotland.

Week 15.

Well we very nearly managed to dodge the rain for the whole week, but when it came - boy did it pelt down! I reckon it will be pumps at the ready this coming Tues! Thank you all for your hard work and I hope the various trips home were ok.

Week 16.

With the Wordsworth influence in the trench this week, I feel I should write some verse. However, as the only one I know invloves a rude tale about a woodpecker, perhaps I'd better leave it........... :P Thank you all for your hard work.
