From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

Hello Andy et al! It's fabulous to see the forum springing back to life after a long winter. Some amazing finds already (and some very cold & soggy-looking diggers).

I was wondering, the beautiful wooden drainage system that Sandy & I uncovered back in '06, was that able to be removed & conserved? Reburied? Destroyed?

Talk about an excellent case study: how to choose what to save with limited resources. Obviously I hope every last bit of it is safe, either in conservation or under a new thick layer of lovely clay in situ. But I can't imagine it would be cheap to do!
