From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

A big "WELL DONE" To all the staff at Vindolanda.

Its fantastic news to hear that the bid was successful this time. You must all be very excited. Its going to be busy for you all in the forthcoming months.

When can we get to see the proposed outline scheme and if possible the time line?.

Congratulations again, we shall be raising a glass(or two) to your success.

Hi Jim,
Many thanks for your kind words, and you support. One of the greatest strengths of this project and the Vindolanda Trust as a whole is the volunteer input.
The project includes; site interpretation, re-display at the Roman Army Museum and Vindolanda (with particular emphasis on the writing tablets there), and the Vindolanda study centre for the excavations/excavators, new footpaths at Vindolanda and many other things.
We will get a more detailed outline out as soon. Timetables will have to wait until the spring as nothing is fixed in stone until you get to the second stage. Basically at this stage HLF put the money for the project to one side and request a lot of things to be worked up to the 'go' level. When we progress to stage 2 there will be a large number of fantastic opportunities to get involved with many aspects of the project, so Vindolanda will be letting everyone know what these are as soon as they become available.
All the best,

Andy

This is stunning! Brilliant! Huge congratulations, and more power to the entire Vindolanda crew for what I'm sure will be a -lot- of work to clear the Stage 2 hurdle. Wow. The tablets could come back home? That's incredible.

WOW IT IS SUCH GREAT NEWS,WELL DONE EVERYONE!!!!! THREE CHEERS FOR YOU ALL!!!
I will have my fingers crossed for stage two and will be very willing to lend a hand in any way I can, as I know many more of us volunteers will be. I will raise a glass to Vindolanda tomorrow when I have moved into my new house.
The toast will be to an even brighter future for the Trust and the return of the letters.

This is fantastic news. I know all the hardwork that has been put in to get this!! Maybe the good Northumberland soaking they got helped their decision or did they feel sorry for us excavators happily digging while the heavens opened!!
What exciting times ahead!
