From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

After 2 weeks we had uncovered an excellent bit of wall (see below) - unfortunately it seemed to stop at that point! I look forward to seeing the progress made in coming weeks. Good luck to all during the rest of the season.

I can sympathize with you aussiesue. I always wonder where the rest of that wall I was working went knowing that no one could have lived within such a small length of space!:)

25th May. Looking West.
The white building in the distance was for the Roman re-enactment group called Comitatus taking part in a week long “The Living Frontier” event. (www.comitatus.net)

Anthea it reminds me of the spoilheap from 3 years ago in area B. Justin had us climbing higher and higher, needed oxygen at the top.

It's good for one's health. I'll keep reminding myself of that. :)

Eric I am looking forward to meeting you next week, heard a lot of things about you and they are not all bad, honest!
Seriously though I have been trying to build up my muscles after seeing Anthea's pic. I have bought myself some ropes and crampons and an oxygen cylinder.

It has been known for supervisor types to watch diggers as they climb the spoil heap and empty their loads. This may be followed by applause and giving of marks for style and proficiency. I've yet to see the rule book for how these marks are calculated...
