From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

From June 20-25 I was digging in the NW corner of the fort immediately south, and then immediately west of the small turret attached (?) to the north fort wall. I would be interested in hearing from any later diggers in that area how things evolved. I was back to visit in mid-July and know there were 3 or 4 guys digging there who affirmed bones, bones, and bones (animal) like i found.

Any one else dug in that area and have anything to report?

Thanks.
Dave.

A couple of dig seasons ago, below that corner tower, the top few levels were chock full of animal bone and very little else. Must have been some great bbq going on!

And here I thought maybe it was the picnic area beside a 1500 year old KFC!
