13th Aug. Looking east.
The large altar, under the blue cover, and rooms inside the north wall. South of these rooms, the intervallum road with a drain. South of the road is the northern-most row of barracks/ houses.

20th Aug. Looking east.
From the west rampart, the remaining grass strip between the two areas. On the left the area which was started along the north wall, then worked south, on the right is the main area.

23rd Aug. Looking east. Rainy days.
When it really rains and we’re wet enough we have to finish early. :(

Manoeuvred into place by some burley fellows it was laid with the back side down onto a padded wooden pallet. Carefully lifted (I can’t bear to look Alex!) on an extending fork lift and taken away down the Stanegate to the museum.
Imagine the scene when (and how) it arrived at the place where it was found.

G'day Michael

Thanks for putting up the photos mate and sorry I ruined one of them : ) although to her credit Anna helped to mitigate the damage being the one actually working in our section. It was great to see some recent photos as soon as I arrived home, keep up the good work.

Cheers Phil N

Here is the first building on the left (after the intervallum road) as you come into the fort from the West Gate. This is the one with the 'Riacus' graffiti.

The floor has been taken down to (probably) before Riacus's time and shows,
from bottom right to top left across the room;
A smaller wall running parallel to the later large stoned wall
An oven/place where much burning was performed
A drain running parallel to nothing much
A second smaller wall, again parallel to the later wall.
