From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

For anyone visiting Vindolanda this year or walking the Wall, here is a Web resource -very- worth a look: http://perlineamvalli.org.uk/. Archaeologist Mike Bishop has created, from Google Earth, a fully-detailed atlas of Roman sites along the length of the Wall. Forts, milecastles, turrets, Vallum, Stanegate, etc. But he takes it even further. If you click a site, you get access to photos taken at that site, links to national online records about the site, and a detailed bibliography of where to find more information. He's even created a "pocket" version that can be accessed from your iPhone, etc., so you can follow along while you're actually out on the trail. Whether you're just curious about what a section of the Wall trail looks like, or your interests are more scholarly, it's just a really impressive resource.

Magna's there, at least on the Google Earth KMZ file I downloaded. But you're right, no Roman Army Museum -- not cool, man!
