From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

I had no problems using Firefox, but all the info seemed to be jumbled up when I got to the page where you can check your order. Hope somebody at Vindolanda can make sens of my requests! :o

Wow, just checked the list of dates available for 2011 and there are only 10 places left in April! Glad I got my application in nice and early and really pleased Vindolanda is obviously increasing in popularity as the place to be for volunteers. It says a lot for the team there who make it such a fantastic experience for us all.

Roll on May 30th 2011.... :P

I think we must all have realised that the change in set-up for next year (one team only, Mon-Fri digs only, etc.) could lead to some potential problems and some people being left feeling perhaps undervalued, although I'm sure this really isn't the case.

I must be one of the lucky ones who got the dates I asked for, but would have been equally happy if not a little disappointed to get my 2nd or 3rd choice weeks.

I really don't envy the Vindolanda team who have to sit down and make the tough decisions but unfortunately someone has to do it. Rather them than me.

May I just express my compliments on the excellent concise Friends Report I received last week.

I was especially excited by the 'then and now' images - inordinately so perhaps, there were even shadows!!!

More seriously it helps put things into perspective about just how organised the Romans were when out on miltary campaigns.

For those people able to view Channel 4 in the UK there is a documentary currently showing on Thursday evenings at 9 following a group of 6 builders building a Roman villa using only Roman tools or equivalent at Wroxeter in Shropshire. Once you have stopped shouting at the archaeologist who is running it all and excaliming in disgust that there would have been far more than 6 people involved it is quite informative.

Enjoy!
